WHITTLESEY STREET PRIDE GROUP

Residents in Whittlesey have shown that they have pride in their local environment by forming the first public Street Pride group in Fenland.
The Street Pride scheme helps members of the community to work together with Fenland District Council to improve their local neighbourhood for the benefit of all. Improvements can be made using a variety of methods including community litter picks, planting additional flowers, the creation of a wildlife area or simply reporting environmental problems to the Council using new and improved reporting mechanisms.
At the end of the pilot scheme, the areas will benefit from an improved local environment and will receive a certificate, wall plaque and a cash reward from Fenland District Council to be spent on other environmental community projects.
Residents in Whittlesey were first to form their Street Pride group and have already taken part in a community clean up. The litter pick, which took place in Benwick Road on Saturday 24 February, was very successful with 35 adults and children taking part. The group have planned to meet at the Town Hall in Whittlesey bi-monthly on the 3 rd Wednesday of each month to discuss future events. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 18 April at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend to suggest and discuss possible environmental improvements to the town.
If you can't wait until then to get involved, why not come along to the Whittlesey Street Pride group's next clean up event which will be taking place on Saturday 24 March? The group will be litter picking the Lattersey Nature Reserve in New Road , Whittlesey from 10.00am to 12.30pm.
For more information on the Whittlesey Street Pride group, please contact Co-Chairs Martin Green on 01733 206627 or Lawrence Seaton on 07713 081526.
